Major General Robert Bagan has served as Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard since January 2024. In the same year, he was appointed to the rank of Major General of the Border Guard.
As the head of a modern and constantly developing formation, he is responsible for the security of the borders of the Republic of Poland, the national territory and the external border of the European Union.
He has over 34 years of experience in the uniformed services. He began his career in the Police, moving to the Bureau of Investigation of the Border Guard Headquarters in 1999. Since then, he has held a number of key positions in the structure of the Border Guard - from operational-investigative tasks and those related to diplomatic protection of the Republic of Poland, to managerial positions, e.g.
in the Vistula Branch of the Border Guard and the Border Guard Headquarters.From 2011 to 2019, he was Deputy Director of the Board for Foreigners of the KGSG, and then for more than four years served as Commander of the Vistula Branch of the Border Guard.
Under his command, the Border Guard is undergoing an intensive modernisation process - new training systems are being developed, advanced technologies
are being implemented and strategic investments in border infrastructure are being made. He cooperates both
with national law enforcement services and internationally, including within EU and Frontex structures.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard, he focuses on effectively countering migration pressures, developing electronic barrier systems and modern forms of service
