Karol Okoński graduated from the Faculty of Management and Economics at the Gdańsk University of Technology and has almost 25 years of experience in the field of ICT and security. He is currently the Director of the Security and Information Management Division at the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX).
Before Frontex, for almost 5 years he was the Director responsible for cybersecurity services for the public sector in Poland and the CEE region at PwC, and before that for almost 4 years he was the Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs, where he supervised the area of national cybersecurity and the areas of development and maintenance of digital services and state registers. He was also the first Government Plenipotentiary for Cybersecurity and the Chairman of the Steering Committees of several key projects of the Ministry, including CEPIK and Digital Identity. Earlier, in 2001-2012 he worked in system integration domain at Accenture, and then between 2012 and 2016 he was the IT Director in the postal services and banking industry.
